Work, School, Sports, Homework, Grocery Shopping, Meal Preparation…. the stress of these things can certainly add up throughout the week can’t they? I know I’m guilty of go, go, go and never taking the time to personally relax with the family. Last weekend, my family and I decided to take a small “staycation” in OUR town to get away and refocus on each other and our family time, even if only for one night, it’s all about balance right!!
I partnered with the Hilton DoubleTree in Port Huron, Michigan and I can’t wait to share with you pictures of our amazing rooms and the VIEWS from the rooms, as well as what we did to relax, where we ate, and what it was like to staycation here in our own town!
Checking in was a breeze, I was greeted by friendly faces, educated on the free WiFi, and even left my cell number so we could communicate by text if I needed an answer to a question pronto! I was sent a greeting text shortly after arriving in our room welcoming us again to the hotel, and oh one more thing we all were all given cookies! Holy smokes, Hilton DoubleTree cookies are legit amazing!!! Word of advice do NOT turn them down, accept them and enjoy!!!
Ok – – First things first, I have never been to the Hilton DoubleTree to stay the night! I’ve been inside before on a tour but never actually went inside a room! Let me tell you, it was amazing! Now I gotta tell you too, we have four kids, so finding a room to accommodate our controlled chaos can often be difficult! We’ve done rooms with 2 queens before and cots, but the poor youngest kiddos don’t usually appreciate the “cot life.” At the DoubleTree, we decided on doing adjoining rooms. One room for the hubby and I with a king bed, and a second adjoining room for the kids with 2 queens! Rooms here were so beautiful, beds were cozy; and the kids slept wonderfully, and the views were so gorgeous both from our balcony and in the courtyard below! (There was even a wedding going on when we checked in our in the courtyard overlooking the river)!
If you’ve never been to Port Huron, we can basically take a very short car ride over the Blue Water Bridge and be in Canada!! It’s pretty amazing to step out on to our balcony and see the beautiful bridge and the our friendly neighbors across the river! Oh, and speaking of the view, at night the lights are just stunning!! We went outside on this fall night and just admired the beauty outside of the hotel on their patio area and just relaxed and took it all in together as a family like we had not done before. We even took an evening stroll and admired the gorgeous sky and walked along the river walk and looked at artwork too!
Attached to the DoubleTree is Freighters, it’s a fantastic restaurant with top notch cuisine for everyone! From burger to nachos to lobster and shrimp, they serve it all! We all enjoyed dinner together while overlooking the beautiful river and Blue Water Bridge from our table! We even saw a few freighters go by too! We were served by the lovely Doreen or “Dori” as she told us (said she’s called that because she forgets things, lol)! Jake thought she was pretty amusing and I’m pretty sure she got a kick out of him too!! Besides the amazing service, our food was absolutely amazing as well! I had the perch, my hubby had a Diablo burger, Addi had the house Mac & Cheese, Kaci had the salmon, Emilee had a chicken Caesar salad, and Jake trialed the chicken fingers but let Doreen know he’d like to have Burger King, lol!! (Jake is going through a very picky stage and apparently BK has the only chicken he likes)!!
We also dined here for breakfast the very next morning! The buffet was tasty, however I opted for the lobster omelette and it did not disappoint! Oh, and again the views at Freighters were so beautiful! The decor inside is what I call “modern nautical chic” and the beautiful fireplace in the middle of the dining room is a stunner and so inviting! If you ever get a chance to visit Port Huron make Freighters your top breakfast, lunch, or dinner choice for sure!! (Oh and ask for Doreen, she was wonderful to our family)!!
Our previous family vacations out of state were often surrounded by so much hustle and bustle and worrying about what we would do and see next (hello Disney), but there is just something so very relaxing about a staycation in your own hometown! We were all able to just honestly RELAX and UNWIND. We definitely took advantage of the large pool and hot tub area for relaxing too! Ask the kids, and of course their favorite part of the stay was the pool time (and probably mine too- – so much laughter and fun and just family time made this time my favorite as well)!
The Hilton DoubleTree also has a top notch work out room and Jake and the kids enjoyed doing a few exercises before hitting the pool, lol! Jake is such a ham as you can see below!! I had plans to work out the next morning, but instead sat on our balcony with a fresh complimentary coffee and enjoyed the spectacular views before we packed up to head home. (Oh, and Check out was at noon you guys- – woo hoo, no need for a mad rush in the morning to pack up quickly)!!!
I highly suggest if you live in Port Huron, take a staycation at the Hilton DoubleTree, you will have an amazing experience and will not be dissatisfied! We left feeling rested, happy, well fed (thanks to Freighters), and rejuvenated!! It was so nice to experience family time and I’m glad we did it here! If you plan on vacationing over here, you now know where to stay!! The rooms, the service, the views, the food, it’s all spectacular!!
Thank you to my friends at the Hilton DoubleTree and Freighters for making this staycation a memorable one. Oh, and as always, thank you all for following along on my blogging journey!!
