How I Improved My Self Confidence

Body confidence, Body Positivity, Self confidence: These words have been given a lot of attention lately haven’t they? Today I want to share with you the single most important thing I did for myself to improve my overall self confidence.

Some of you may remember my post from earlier in the year about how my self esteem was torn apart during my grade school years, you can read the full very emotional post HERE. Those days are long gone, I no longer feel inferior to other women, or feel worried what others may think of me. For once, I can honestly say, I feel confident with who I am! And honestly, once you do, it’s like a whole new world opens up to you, it’s so empowering!

Ok, so wanna know what helped ME? It was easy: how many of you weigh yourself every day? Be honest, do you step on even a few times a week? Are you happy with the number you see? I know I wasn’t! I NEVER was happy with who I was or what I weighed (I’m tearing up just typing this). I literally was so depressed, even when I was at my thinnest, my mindset was still altered! I always thought, “ok just 5 more pounds and I’ll be happier”… then I’d lose 5lbs (usually by starving myself) and then I wasn’t happy. It was honestly such a vicious cycle.

So here’s what I did! I STOPPED weighing myself. I moved the scale out of my bathroom completely. I honestly can’t remember the last time I weighed myself, at least a few months ago. I now judge how I feel by how my pants fit instead! I also try to work out at least 3-4x a week. I no longer obsess over it like I did in the past either!

So I know it sounds a bit cliche, but it really did help me! I now go shopping and instead of dreading the size on the tag, I don’t care! If I have to size up I don’t even care about that, I make sure an item fits me and compliments my curves!

It’s definitely a learning process, I’ve never in a million years thought I’d be sharing photos of myself in swimsuits and bras, but here I am, and you know what the best part is, I like what I look like! I feel confident!

  3. As someone who struggled with a severe eating disorder and still deals with body dysmorphia to an intense degree, I have stopped weighing myself as well. I stopped several years ago and it helped significantly. Now the only time I’m 100% sure of my weight is when I go to a doctor’s office!

  4. Girl, I’m with you!! I don’t have a scale and never weigh myself. I’m all about how I feel and how my clothes fit. Good for you for sticking with 3-4 day a week workout. PS I love the sleeves on your plaid top, so cute!

  5. I feel you, girl! I used to have the worst self-esteem! It didn’t help that my extended family used to poke fun at my weight in high school (I’m 5’3″ and I was only about 115 pounds then too!) I stopped weighing myself on the scale in college and like you, it was the best decision! I’m so glad you’re a much more confident person now!
